FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common questions about UCAT scoring.

How accurate is this UCAT score calculator?+

This calculator provides an estimated percentile based on historical UCAT ANZ score distributions. Actual percentiles vary each year depending on the candidate pool. Use this tool as a general guide to understand where your practice scores sit relative to previous cohorts, not as a guarantee of your real exam percentile.

What is a good UCAT total score?+

A total cognitive score (VR + DM + QR) above 2190 is generally considered competitive (approximately the 80th percentile). Scores above 2310 (90th percentile and above) are excellent and competitive for the most selective universities such as Sydney and Melbourne. The median total score is approximately 1930.

How is the UCAT scored in Australia?+

Since 2025, the UCAT ANZ has three cognitive subtests — Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making, and Quantitative Reasoning — each scored from 300 to 900. The three scores are added for a cognitive total between 900 and 2700. Situational Judgement is scored separately on a scale of 300 to 900 and is not added to the cognitive total.

Does my Situational Judgement score count towards the total?+

No. In the UCAT ANZ, Situational Judgement is reported as a separate scaled score of 300 to 900. It is not included in the cognitive total. However, some universities (such as Adelaide, UQ, Auckland, and Otago) factor SJ into their selection criteria, so a strong SJ score can still benefit your application.

Can I use my UCATReady practice scores in this calculator?+

Yes. Enter your subtest scores from UCATReady practice sessions or mock exams to get an estimated percentile and see how your scores compare to university requirements. Keep in mind that practice scores may differ from your actual exam performance, but they provide a useful benchmark for tracking your progress.

What UCAT score do I need for the University of Sydney?+

The University of Sydney is one of the most competitive medical schools in Australia. Based on historical data, a total cognitive score of approximately 2310 or above (roughly the 90th percentile) is typically needed to be competitive. However, cut-offs change each year and the university also considers ATAR, interviews, and other criteria.
